An exhibition project with @alt.material as part of NGV Melbourne Design Week.
COMMUNITY speculates on the future uses of vacant shopfront spaces. A catalyst for new opportunities to utilise space and re-animate our high streets.
We must speculate further on how these spaces can be brought into use. To re-imagine and reinvigorate our high streets & idea of community. Physically distanced yet closer together.
This exhibition occupying storefronts in Collingwood and Fitzroy in Victoria, invites leading and emerging design practitioners to respond to the theme ‘COMMUNITY’.
Exhibits are dispersed across 24 locations spanning Smith, Gertrude and Brunswick Streets. Experienced on foot or as part of a curated daily walking tour.
Designs range from functional furniture to conceptual explorations of how we might give form to ideas and understandings of community.
Works are produced by leading & emerging designers from Australia, UK & Europe. Each designer has been selected based on their body of work, level of energy and alignment with the exhibition theme. Participants are working across product, sculpture, furniture & architecture.

ALL THE GOOD THINGS highlights local businesses and the multitude of hidden creative practices in the area. Often small in size but large in contribution, creative practitioners contribute to the beauty, health, service, liveability and future of the community.
This growing list accessed by the storefront graphic QR code uncovers a multitude of benefits that a creative community provides, opening up opportunity to engage with creative professionals in the area for Melbourne Design Week 2021 and beyond.
Additionally, bringing together community favourites by local creative practitioners, ALL THE GOOD THINGS gathers together places for inspiration, spaces for recuperation and restoration.’
