GARAGE SALE TRAIL

Garage Sale Trail is a leading changemaker in sustainable shopping, creativity and community action.

Australia’s biggest simultaneous yard sale started out four years ago as a small, local sale in Bondi. Since then it’s grown to become a regular event on community calendars with markets held in schools, businesses and in people’s homes.

In 2014, a record breaking 8,160 sales registered for the Garage Sale Trail, with 8.5 million items at a value of $9.2 million, and a huge saving to landfill.

'Garage Sale Trail is a national program that’s about sustainability, community, commerce and fun. By organising communities around Australia to hold garage sales on the same day we aim to promote reuse, reduce waste to landfill, enable new neighbourly connections, provide a platform for fundraising, inspire creativity and stimulate local economies.

Now in its fourth year, Garage Sale Trail is a not-for-profit mission that works hand in hand with government to inspire social and environmental change. Last year’s event resulted in 1.5 million items listed for reuse, that’s an average of 8 shopping trollies redistributed per sale, and over 230,000 new community connections or 13 new connections per participant.

Over the past 3 years Garage Sale Trail has grown into an epic national event involving over 360,000 participants in 7,000 sales nationally, with 35,000 sellers and an online audience of 2.1 million. This year’s event will be held on Saturday the 25th of October and will be the biggest community and sustainability event Australia has ever seen.

Garage Sale Trail is for buyers, sellers, makers and creators. Absolutely everyone can get involved.'
