NATURAL WONDER. POWERHOUSE LATE X VIVID IDEAS

8 June 2023

A special night of Natural Wonder curated by Liane Rossler at Powerhouse for Vivid Sydney.

See nature in a whole new light in this fascinating night about how our most innovative artists, designers and architects take inspiration from its many wonders.

Expect thought provoking talks, practical workshops, inspiring installations and powerful music. Exploring the intersections of nature, design, art and architecture, this Powerhouse Late is for curious minds who are fascinated by nature’s creativity, discussed in series of lively talks by leading innovators who take inspiration from nature.

Featuring artists, innovators, creators and storytellers including Aleksandra, Honey Fingers, Grant Stevens, Tully Arnott, Isabella Rosselini, Kaylie Salvatori, Cola Studio, Samantha Rich, Walumarra Studio, Zoe Simms, Zoe Sadokierski, Paperform, The Happenstore, Chordata, Paris Groovescooter and The Garden of Bob.

In the theatre, hear first-hand from a series of innovators, artists, and storytellers with a trio of talks. Bee expert and Honey Fingers founder Nic Dowse unpacks the connections between bees, farming, food, art, history and design. Designer, writer and UTS School of Design Associate Professor in Visual Communication Zoe Sadokierski talks about how storytelling can tackle biodiversity loss and climate change. And a trio of First Nations designers - Kaylie Salvatori, Samantha Rich and Zoe Sims discuss their work, creativity and what designing the future from a First Nations perspective looks like.

In a series of workshops, learn the art of contemporary botanic arrangements with artist Aleksandra, try flora embroidery under the steady hands of Prints Charming and Happen Store's Cath Derksama, and make paper flowers and more wonders with Studio Paperform founder Benja Harney.

Enjoy installations inspired by nature throughout the Museum by Tully Arnott, Benja Harney, Honey Fingers, and Aleksandra, plus music all night by Chordata and Groove Scooter. Don’t miss screenings of Isabella Rossellini’s Green Porno series, where the iconic actress and artist enacts out mating rituals of animals and insects.

This event is part of a series of Powerhouse Late x Vivid Ideas nights exploring the role of creativity in community and connection.
